LSTC hosts counselors, awards $1500 in tuition waivers

On Friday, February 19, Linn State Technical College welcomed fourteen A+ Coordinators, high school and career center counselors from across the state of Missouri to the LSTC campus for the LSTC Counselor Forum.

The goal of the forum was to provide counselors an opportunity to network and learn more about LSTC in an effort to help students with their college decisions.

Counselors were treated to a full campus tour including a sneak peek at the new Vehicle and Power Center opening Fall 2010.

LSTC faculty and staff presented best practice seminars highlighting the unique partnerships and collaborations with business and industry and secondary instructors.   Roundtable discussions provided counselors an opportunity to discuss topics relevant to their positions and hear about LSTC services.

Dr. Donald Claycomb, LSTC President, addressed the counselors during lunch and reported the high earning potential of LSTC graduates and the college’s commitment to student success.

Becky Dunn, Assistant Dean of Enrollment Management, stated that counselors play an important role in the college search process.  “Each year we ask our students how they heard about LSTC and counselors always rank in the top three responses,” said Dunn, “This day was an important way for LSTC to reach out and enhance our relationship with counselors from across the state.”

The forum concluded with the awarding of door prizes, including two tuition waivers valued at $1500 for counselors and coordinators to award to the student of each recipient’s choice.

Saundra Hartge, A+ Coordinator for Osage R-1 School in Chamois, MO received the $1000 tuition waiver.  Carol Kirk, Counselor for Maries County R-1 in Vienna, MO won the $500 tuition waiver.

With more than 25 programs, Linn State Technical College is Missouri’s only public two-year technical college with a statewide mission.   LSTC has campuses in Linn, Mexico and Jefferson City.  LSTC prepares students for profitable employment and a life of learning.
