Saint Louis high school students graduate from Technology Scholars Academy
Twelve Saint Louis high school students concluded a three week Technology Scholars Academy with a graduation and recognition ceremony at Linn State Technical College in Linn, MO on Thursday, June 27, 2013.
During the ceremony, the students presented their capstone presentations to parents, business and industry guests and representatives from the Missouri Department of Transportation, Elementary and Secondary Education and Higher Education.
The ceremony included recognition of the student’s accomplishments and concluded with an official graduation ceremony. Successful completion of the academy included three hours of college credit, industry recognized certifications and an IPAD for the students.
The academy, which is a collaborative partnership between Saint Louis Public Schools and Linn State Technical College, is specifically designed for high school seniors, with a minimum of a 2.5 GPA and in good standing with their high school.
The academy provided students with a jump start to their senior year by providing academic and personal growth experiences in a structured, safe and fun academy environment.
While at Linn State, students learned about construction materials, surveying, mapping and drafting. Participants were exposed to additional areas such as small gas engines, design drafting, heavy equipment operations and machine tool technology.
Linn Sate Technical College is Missouri’s only state technical college. Hands-on technical courses balanced with a strong foundation in communication, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking prepare graduates for profitable employment and a life of learning.
