Linn State Prepares Over 350 for the Technical Workforce

Linn State Technical College held its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 11 for the 2013 graduating class. Over 350 students participated in the graduation ceremony held at the Linn State Activity Center.

Graduates received a variety of technical degrees and certificates that prepare them to enter and excel in applicable careers. Enrollment at the school represents 80 percent of Missouri counties and its graduates fuel the state’s technical workforce.

200Linn State alumnus, Jay Stephens, a Machine Tool Technology graduate gave the keynote address. He encouraged graduates to go out and make the most of their technical training as the nation is experiencing a very real shortage of skilled workers. “The future of our nation depends on technically skilled applicants like you to fill the positions that produce results,” said Stephens.

During the commencement ceremonies, Jennifer Goodman of Gerald, Missouri received the President’s Award. Goodman graduated with not one, but two Associate of Applied Science degrees: Construction & Civil Technology and Design Drafting Technology. She will apply her technical skills at Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City, Missouri.

Goodman was also the winner of the Breaking Traditions Award, the Home Builder’s Association Outstanding Student of the Year Award and the Construction & Civil Technology Outstanding Student Award to name a few. She served Linn State as a Residential Assistant, on the Student Government Association as Treasurer and in Phi Theta Kappa as the Public Relations Officer. She also volunteered her time at various events around campus as well as in service projects for the community.

Linn State Technical College is Missouri’s only state technical college. Hands-on technical courses balanced with a strong foundation in communication, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking prepare graduates for profitable employment and a life of learning.
