Whitney receives award of merit
Glenda Whitney, Career Services director at Linn State Technical College, received the National Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) Region III Award of Merit at the 2010 Annual Convention and Career Tech Expo in Las Vegas, NV on December 3.
The ACTE Excellence Awards seek to promote excellence in career and technical education by recognizing individuals, programs and organizations that have made extraordinary contributions to the field, programs that exemplify the highest standards and organizations that have conducted activities to promote and expand career and technical education programs. This award is given to recognize contributors for the highest meritorious improvement, promotion, development, and progress of career and technical education.
“We are proud of Glenda’s accomplishment,” said Vicki Schwinke, Linn State dean of academic and student affairs. “She represents career education and Linn State so honorably.”
Whitney earned an Associate of Technology Degree in Design Drafting at Linn State and worked in the industry for almost ten years. In 1989, Whitney returned to her alma mater to teach in the Design Drafting Technology program. After six years of teaching, Whitney was appointed to her current position as career services director. Whitney also served as the Missouri ACTE President in 2008-2009.
ACTE is the largest national education association dedicated to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for careers. Members include career and technical educators, administrators, researchers, guidance counselors and others involved in planning and conducting career and technical education programs at the secondary, post-secondary and adult levels.
With more than 35 programs, Linn State Technical College is Missouri’s only public two-year technical college with a statewide mission. LSTC has campuses in Linn, Mexico and Jefferson City. LSTC prepares students for profitable employment and a life of learning.
