Twenty-five automotive technology instructors from across Missouri attended the 2010 Automotive Technology Summer Institute hosted by Linn State Technical College on July 13-15.

The three day institute was an opportunity for secondary and post secondary instructors to learn about new products and industry trends concerning the automotive field.  This year’s institute included presentations on innovative education systems, modern charging systems, diagnostics for evaporative emission control systems, direct injected gas engines and Genysis scan tools.

This is the 18th year that Linn State has hosted the institute.  Jim Brandon, Automotive Technology Department Chair, organized the institute with the help of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, University of Missouri Instructional Materials Lab and other Linn State employees.

According to Brandon, hosting the summer institute provides the Automotive Technology Program at Linn State the opportunity to establish and build relationships with high school automotive instructors around the state of Missouri.   “The instructors are informed about what kinds of technology we are teaching, which helps them prepare their students for a post secondary education here at Linn State.”

“We value the opportunity to work with high school instructors,” said Janet Clanton, Associate Dean of Instruction.  “It’s important that we coordinate so that high school and post secondary automotive programs are linked to give students the best education possible.”

The National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) require 20 hours of technical update training each year for instructors teaching in a NATEF/ASE certified program.

With more than 35 programs, Linn State Technical College is Missouri’s only public two-year technical college with a statewide mission.   LSTC has campuses in Linn, Mexico and Jefferson City.  LSTC prepares students for profitable employment and a life of learning.
