Almost every product from a paper clip to the space shuttle is created using machine tool technology. If not used directly in the manufacturing of a product, machine tool technology
is used to create the machinery and equipment that produce the product. The MTT program provides the student with the experience, knowledge, and proper judgment to select the necessary machining processes, plan the process, and setup and operate machine tools to create a part or product. Machinists use Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling machines, lathes, grinders, and Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) equipment. Machinists also use standard machine tools such as drill presses and
hand tools. Graduates from this program may be employed in manufacturing or custom work in companies of any size. A machinist can become a tool and die or mold maker. These are master crafts involving advanced uses of machine tools and attachments.
